Trump's Tanah Lot ultra luxury project forced to scale back

Trump's Tanah Lot ultra luxury project forced to scale back

Trump's Tanah Lot's project

Trump's Tanah Lot project forced to scale back less than a year after Donald Trump Jr visited his ultra-luxury project in Bali. Now they facing a new reality: Indonesians are holding back spending as the coronavirus ravages the nation's US$1 trillion (S$1.4 trillion) economy.

Set over 107 hectares of land across the water from the Tanah Lot Temple

The US developer's local partner and conglomerate, PT MNC Investama, is now considering remodelling the design of the Trump-branded six-star hotel and residential venture in a bid to make the property more affordable to buyers seeking to save, tycoon and Chairman Hary Tanoesoedibjo . I see people have become more modest says Tanoesoedibjo, 54, on Monday (June 22 th 2020). It shouldn't be too lavish. Maybe it will be just a five-star or a tad below five-star because lifestyle in the future will change drastically. The pandemic has hit Indonesia harder than the 1997 Asian financial crisis, battering small and big businesses alike, President Joko Widodo said last week. With the economy on course to contract as much as 3.8 per cent this quarter, even rich Indonesians aren't in the mood to splurge. Average monthly sales of luxury cars from Mercedes Benz to Lexus and BMW have plunged 50 per cent in April and May from the previous quarter.

Luxury properties aren't just falling out of favour in Indonesia. Home prices in London's wealthiest districts fell the most since early 2009 in April as the spread of the virus derailed a nascent recovery in the city's priciest postcodes. Manhattan deals came to a near standstill in May, as contracts to buy co-ops fell 80 per cent from a year earlier and condo sales plunged 83 pre cent.
PT MNC Land, a unit of Tanoesoedibjo's group, is investing about US$400 million to develop two sites for the Trump-branded projects. They include the one in Bali, called the Trump Residences. Set over 107 hectares of land across the water from the Tanah Lot Temple on the popular resort island, the property includes 144 ultra-luxury homes, an 18-hole signature golf club, a beach club and also a luxury hotel.

Chairman Hary Tanoesoedibjo stated on Monday 22/06/2020 that hebecome more modest

The other project is a resort and condos in Lido in West Java. The partnerships signed in 2015 entitles Trump Organization to receive royalties from the Indonesian developer for the use of the Trump brand. The organisation will also get a fee to manage the hotels and golf courses and commission from sales of the Trump-branded villas and condos.Attending a pre-launch event in Jakarta last August, Trump Jr said Indonesia was an "under-served market" and the two developments were a "dream becoming reality". The remodelling of the project could delay the completion, which was initially scheduled for 2022.The Trump Organization didn't respond to an email requesting comments on the Indonesian partner's plan to remodel the project.

The slowdown in spending can't last forever, said Paulus Totok Lusida, secretary general of Real Estate Indonesia, an industry association. Once the pandemic is over, demand will pick up again," Lusida said. "People with money would still want to travel and spend time at luxury resorts, own properties like condominiums. Tanoesoedibjo, who founded the media and real-estate conglomerate MNC Group in 1989, also runs his own political party. The businessman, who expanded his empire by acquiring television stations once owned by the family of former President Suharto, attended Trump's inauguration in 2017 and has often touted his friendship with Trump's children.

Amid the slowdown caused by the coronavirus outbreak in the country, MNC Investama is planning to buy back a part of the US$231 million of dollar-denominated bonds due 2021, after previously considering seeking extension on the payments, Tanoesoedibjo said. Indonesia has reported 47,896 cases of Covid-19 and 2,535 fatalities from the disease, surpassing Singapore as the country with the most number of infections in South-east Asia. The nation's central bank has cut its benchmark interest rate twice this year, while lawmakers are pushing Bank Indonesia to shoulder the bulk of the government's US$50 billion stimulus plan.

While the MNC Group has faced some challenges, the pandemic has also provided an unexpected boost to its media businesses. Its pay TV service has managed to add 250,000 new customers each month since a partial lockdown was imposed, exceeding the company's expectations, while its broadband internet users have also risen sharply, Tanoesoedibjo said. But, the property market is set to see many changes because of the pandemic, he said. There's a noticeable shift," he said. "Therefore we need to change our strategy

Bali Tourism reopening demanded by travel agencies

Bali Tourism reopening demanded by travel agencies

Bali Tourism reopening demanded

Indonesia aims to attract 3.5 million Chinese tourists next year .

Bali Tourism reopening demanded by travel agencies as most of its members only have financial capability to weather the crisis until July. The plea comes following the government’s decision to maintain travel restrictions on the tourist-packed island. The Association of Indonesian Tour and Travel Agencies (ASITA) of Bali expected the government to finish the new normal protocol stipulation by the end of the month and reopen the island to tourists by July to prevent travel companies from collapsing.Tour operators haven’t earned any income since March and we can only last until July. Therefore, we expect Bali to be open really soon,” ASITA Bali secretary I Putu Winastra said during an online discussion held by the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry on June 18.

The Association of Indonesian Travel Agencies expected the government to finish the new normal protocol stipulation by the end of the month and reopen the island to tourists by July

Putu fears that the collapse of travel agencies would not only cause massive layoffs but also affect the island’s economy, as 80 percent of Bali’s economy comes from tourism and its related industries. Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport accounts for 63 percent of foreign tourist visits using through air gates, and 38 percent of overall foreign tourist visits in 2019, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data show. National COVID-19 task force chief Doni Monardo on June 17 said that both the agency and Bali’s local administration agreed not to reopen Bali in the near future, amid the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

reopening demanded by travel agencies.jpg
Bali’s provincial administration also recently reported an increasing number of local COVID-19 transmissions on the island, The result of our discussions with several regional leaders, including the Bali governor, was that we have decided not to open Bali yet," Doni said in a hearing with House of Representatives Commission X overseeing tourism. Bali’s provincial administration also recently reported an increasing number of local COVID-19 transmissions on the island, causing the government to ban activities involving large groups of people, including traditional and religious activities. The island had recorded 1,080 cases as of Monday, ranking 11th in provinces across the archipelago, with nine deaths and 615 recoveries. That compares with 46,845 COVID-19 cases across Indonesia on Monday, with 150 dead and 18,735 recovered.

The Tourism Ministry’s director for tourism marketing Vinsensius Jemadu said the government was taking a cautious stance and had set strict standards before deciding to reopen tourist destinations and the country’s borders.

“We have to take careful considerations and require strict standards when we try to open our borders. We also require our provinces and islands to pass the requirements [before reopening],” he said.

Even if the government decided to reopen Bali and welcome back tourists, there are still other challenges facing travel agencies on the island, an expert warned.

The government is aiming to create “travel bubbles” with China, South Korea, Japan and Australia

A tourism expert at Thailand’s Thammasat University, Walter Jamieson, said travel agencies must be able to strike a delicate balance between letting their guests experiencing their vacation without fear of COVID-19 infection while also applying a strict protocol to protect them from the virus. There’s always a tension for travel destinations between appearing too regulated and maintaining safety. People want to have a good time and not think about handwashing and whatnot during a vacation, but we have to follow all health and safety protocols” he said during the discussion

The government is aiming to create “travel bubbles” with China, South Korea, Japan and Australia to attract travelers and businesspeople, despite COVID-19 infections nationwide showing no signs of slowing down. The term “travel bubble” or “travel corridor” refers to an agreement in which countries that are successfully containing the outbreak can open their borders to each other to allow free movement within the bubble.

Stranded whale Lembeng Beach

The stranded sperm whale on Lembeng Beach in Ketewel village was first attached by shark . Fishers tried to push the whale back back to the ocean . Unfortunaly it returned to the coast where he finally got slaughtered and consumed by local residents in Ketewel village, Ginyar on Thursday 18/06/2020 .  The local residents who cut up the whale claimed that they did not know the species was protected. The villagers then wrote a statement of apology and promised not to repeat their act.

on Friday (19/06/2020 ) police officers visit the scene where whale that was cut and consumed.

Consuming of protected animals is punishable

They can be legally charged if they repeat what they did to the whale,  adding that consuming endangered and protected species was punishable by law, even if the animal was found dead. The whale was added to a list of protected animals in a 2018 Environment and Forestry Ministry decree. The BPSPL would continue to inform those living in the coastal areas of Bali on the protection of marine wildlife. The whale probably found itself in Gianyar waters after being separated from its pod. The dwarf sperm whale usually reaches 2.7 meters in length and 272 kilograms in weight compared to the 18-meter-long, 70-metric-ton sperm whale. It has a gray coloration, square head and small jaw akin to dolphins.

The Bali BKSDA team found blood spots on the leftovers covered by coconut leaves.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature has not declared the conservation status of the species as no population estimate has been made. While the species is not hunted on a large scale by humans, its main threat appears to be plastic and other marine waste that the whale could ingest or become entangled in.

100 / 200 megawatt solar panels project for Bali

100 / 200 megawatt solar panels project for Bali

200 megawatt solar power project

100-200 megawatt solar power project is scheduled  for Bali and Nusa Tenggara Bali in its first year to supply the Indonesian  provinces who needs the highest electricity capacity. A think tank and the government are working on an ambitious billion-dollar plan to recover Indonesia’s virus-ridden economy by installing thousands of rooftop solar panels.

100-200 megawatt power project
A think tank and the government are working on an ambitious billion-dollar plan

The scheme ultimately entails installing panels with a combined capacity of 1 gigawatt of peak power  a year for millions of Indonesia’s poorest households over the next four to five years. The scheme, dubbed the Solar Archipelago (Surya Nusantara) plan, is expected to cost Rp 15 trillion (US$1.07 billion) annually. Local think tank Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR), which initiated the plan, estimates the scheme will generate up to 22,000 jobs from installing the panels and save the government billions of dollars in electricity subsidies.Cutting back subsidies is particularly attractive for the cash-strapped Indonesian government, namely the Energy and Mineral Resources and the Finance Ministry’s Fiscal Policy Agency (BKF), both of whom are working to develop the scheme. We expect implementation to start next year, but preparations must begin from today says  executive director Fabby Tumiwa . Fabby, who is also a member of the Indonesian Solar Energy Association (AESI), said much work remained, including training new panel installers via a government training program. Indonesia currently lacks the manpower to install one GWp of panels each year.

                5.7 % of the country’s power by 2025

Energy analysts globally are calling for governments to invest in green technology as countries begin disbursing billions of dollars in post-COVID-19 economic recovery schemes. The analysts argue that such investments could stimulate growth and create jobs without sacrificing environmental commitments. The period after the COVID-19 crisis could determine whether the world meets or misses the emissions goals of the 2015 Paris Agreement,” said consultancy McKinsey & Company in an article on May 27.

Indonesia, a signatory of the landmark Paris Agreement, has pledged to make solar contribute 5.7 percent of the country’s power by 2025, yet solar only contributed 0.1 percent last year.

The Indonesian government has budgeted Rp 695.2 trillion in economic recovery funds, slated for healthcare system, social safety nets, incentives for small businesses and job creation, among other things, but there is no specific mention of renewable energy. To put that money back into coal would be a mistake,” Rudolf Rauch, renewable energy program coordinator of the GIZ, Germany’s federal enterprise for international cooperation.

200 megawatt solar power
realistically” kick off with 100-200 megawatt in Nusa Tenggara and Bali

Rauch commended the green economic recovery plan but pointed out that Indonesia lacked the manpower to “just jump” into installing 1GWp of panels. He suggested that the government start by installing 200 MW in the first year, then double the figure every following year.

The Energy ministry’s renewables director Harris said the ministry was in talks with the BKF over the plan. He also expected the scheme to create local employment opportunities and grow the domestic solar industry.Everyone can benefit, and the government can save on long-term subsidies,” Harris said.

The government has allocated Rp 97.42 trillion for this year’s energy subsidy, according to Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 54/2020 on the 2020 state budget revision. However, Finance Ministry Fiscal Policy Agency head Febrio Nathan Kacaribu said earlier this month that the energy subsidy budget had been lowered to Rp 92.2 trillion following the plunge in oil prices. Indonesia currently has 31 million households eligible for electricity subsidies. The government spent Rp52.7 trillion on subsidies for those homes last year.

BKF special advisor Joko Tri Hariyanto said the agency was trying to diversify the green economic recovery program’s funding, such as by adding government debt papers and sharia-compliant bonds (sukuk), instead of fully relying on the state budget (APBN), as IESR initially planned.

The BKF is currently awaiting feedback from the energy ministry and the IESR on the scheme. If the energy ministry were to redirect electricity subsidy funds, they would need to talk to PLN,” he said. “If this program does have a good multiplier effect, whether in terms of people’s income or local job creation, then that Rp 15 trillion may come from the state budget.
