Bali hungry dogs feeded by welfare group Four Paws

Bali hungry dogs feeded by welfare group Four Paws, a global animal welfare group, and the Bali Animal Welfare Association have come to the rescue, feeding the thousands of starving animals who previously relied on the tourism industry for food. Currently, thousands of stray animals on the usually bustling island have been forced to survive on minimal food, and innutritious scraps like dried husks and kernels of corn," a release from Four Paws said. The new program, consisting of two teams of full-time feeders, will run for three-and-a-half months total.

So far, feeders have been working for three weeks and have provided thousands of meals to stray animals. The team’s presence on the ground has also had the unintended additional benefit of providing medical care to animals that need it, as well as protecting street dogs from being taken in to the dog meat trade. With flights halted, jobs gone, expats repatriated, and restaurants closed, stray animals on the island have lost their food sources," Dr. Katherine Polak, head of Four Paws Stray Animal Care projects in Southeast Asia, said in the release. She continued, "Facing starvation, dogs are especially at risk of being poisoned or killed in brutal ways. Many starving dogs tend to steal food or hunt and kill farmed animals, placing them in conflict with local communities.

Mangosteen export instead tourism says Bali governor

Mangosteen export instead tourism angered many Balinese business entrepreneurs  who want to soon  operational again in the so called " New Normal ". The governor stated during a pers conference last Wednesday 03/06/2020 that Bali needs to stop relying any longer  on tourists and find other ways to boost the local economy and put first priority to the public health now the tourist attraction's have been reopened.

We need to think of other sectors to strengthen the economy in Bali, which is through export. The governor said there was an opportunity for Bali to export agricultural products, especially its mangosteen, which is particularly popular in China

Indonesia’s central government has identified Bali as one of the regions that can start looking to reboot its economy as it returns to a “new normal” after the pandemic. There has been a recent, which is its main source of overseas arrivals. However, Mr Koster has warned he had no plans to reopen Bali to tourism anytime soon.

Traveled by car from Spain to Bali

Traveled by car from Spain to Bali

Traveling by car from Spain to Bali with Volkswagen Caddy in June through Europe, Russia, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia and then finally arrived on Dec. 31 2019 in Indonesia.Laura Cañal and her longtime friend Maria Rodriguez first traveled to Indonesia as backpackers in 2013. After that trip, they knew they’d come back someday.

Seven years later, the duo had driven a van halfway across the world, from Spain to Indonesia.

Cañal, a nurse, and Rodriguez, an accountant, both live in Madrid, Spain. After their past travels, they threw around the idea of a longer journey, this time by car.

Eventually, the duo committed to the year-long trip after beginning to plan it in 2018, a full year before they left Spain.

They chose Indonesia as their last stop because they loved it the first time they visited. They also had friends in Indonesia and thought it would be a suitable place to end their adventure.

In the fall of 2018, they bought a used 2014 Volkswagen Caddy. A few months later they quit their jobs and started preparing for the trip. In June 2019, they hit the road.

Their route took them through Europe, which they crossed in a month as they drove through Austria, Poland and Latvia, among others. Then came a long stretch: Russia.

It took two months for Cañal and Rodriguez to cross Russia from west to east. They never had any problems, aside from minor car troubles, and made it happily to the eastern coast of the country.

There, they continued to South Korea, Japan, Malaysia and then finally, on Dec. 31, to Indonesia.

At the beginning of their stay in Indonesia, Cañal and Rodriguez were in paradise, bouncing between Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa and Flores. They spent over a month with their friend Blanka Palamos, another Spaniard.

Palamos, an artist, moved to Bali in 2013. Since then, she has married an Indonesian man and started a family.

Cañal and Rodriguez met Palamos in 2013 during their first trip to Indonesia. The three kept in touch and became close friends over the years.

“I think in Indonesia, the three of us really feel at home,” said Palamos.

Palamos admires Cañal and Rodriguez for their kindness, generosity and because of what they represent in their travels.

“Two women, traveling alone from Europe to here – it’s incredible,” said Palamos. “It’s so beautiful and can be so inspiring to others.”

But the stress-free days of tropical bliss didn’t last. When borders started closing around them because of the spread of COVID-19, Cañal and Rodriguez realized their drive back to Spain was doomed.

They also feared for their friends and family in Spain, a country that was hit hard by the pandemic.

“All my colleagues were having a horrible time in Spain,” said Cañal. “I felt like I should have been there. It was a strange mix of feelings.”

Cañal and Rodriguez didn’t go back to Spain because they didn’t want to abandon their car. Instead, they hunkered down in Bali and arranged with a company to have the car shipped back to Spain in June. Once the car is on a boat, they will try to fly home.

When it comes to being stuck in Bali, things could be worse.

“We feel very lucky because of the place, because of the people. They’ve treated us very well,

Café del Mar Bali unpaid staff starts online petition

Café del Mar Bali unpaid staff starts online petition

Café del Mar unpaid staff of 350 people been suddenly lost their jobs in the middle of march 2020 and claims from former owners and share holders their  salary, service charge and health insurance benefits and starts online petition .When the coronavirus started to impact the tourism industry in March, the first ones to suffer were the employees. In mid-March 2020  Cafe del Mar Bali (CDMB) sent staff on unpaid leave suddenly, without any warning. They were never paid their March service charge, which was blatantly considered as stolen by CDMB, as service charge money does not belong to the company and should be paid in full to the staff. Muslim staff are still owed their THR allowance for Idul Fitri. Although CDMB assured staff that they would continue to pay their BPJS (Health insurance), one employee discovered to their surprise that it was unpaid when he went to the hospital for a procedure and the hospital declined their BPJS card. In the middle of a global pandemic, CDMB have completely let down their team of approximately 350 people. Most recently, employees were called for a meeting at the venue, where CDMB told employees that their benefits and monies owed would remain unpaid and that their jobs are no longer guaranteed when they reopen in July.

Café del Mar unpaid staff starts petition Café del Mar Bali in better times

For them Cafe del Mar has proven that they are only interested in taking what they can from local Balinese and Indonesian people. While they were happy to profit from their labour and culture, they are giving nothing back in a time of crisis. The management excuses themselves by claiming that the business has run out of money. While their employees are now going hungry and are unable to access medical care, we can only assume that the shareholders are still able to afford food, medical bills and luxury lifestyles.

They demand that the owners and shareholders of Cafe del Mar Bali reach into their fat wallets and immediately pay back the service charge to their employees, pay the BPJS that they were promised and pay the THR allowance to Muslim employees. This is just the bare minimum that staff are already entitled to as per their contracts, and what staff were already promised by CDMB. We also encourage Cafe del Mar Bali to find it in their hearts to guarantee jobs to staff who want them upon reopening and continue paying their BPJS in the meantime.
