The tide was very low and from a distance I saw a figure approaching, gently pushing a boat of fresh green seaweed onto the shore. I walked up to her armed with curiosity. She patiently guided me through the process of seaweed farming. It takes approximately a month for the seaweed to mature. This month's harvest was a complete failure. Most of the 40kgs of seaweed she dragged in were rotten, generating a mere Rp. 10,000/kg (US$0.75) instead of the average Rp. 60,000/kg (US$4.57). Her husband is an orphaned seaweed farmer and as a dutiful wife, she supports him and helps out at his farm as much as possible. Everybody has a story to tell, i you give them your time. I'm learning not to take anyone for granted. Everyone is worth listening to.
