Greenpeace Rainbow Warrior footholds in Benoa bali cruise terminal
The legendary ship of Greenpeace,
Rainbow Warrior , returned to the waters of Bali after last visit back in 2013.
This Rainbow Warrior ship departs from the port of Papua before
finally anchored at the Port of Benoa Bali Cruise Terminal, April 13 th 2018
His visit this time brings a number of missions related to environmental issues
and the balance between nature and human life.
Rainbow Warrior's captain , Hetti, said the Rainbow Warrior ship
was back to Indonesia with the title 'Jelajah Harmoni Nusantara', after the last visit in 2013.
The presence of this Rainbow Warrior ship has a larger mission
of voicing the saving of the environment and raising public awareness of its importance.
Before heading to Bali , this Rainbow Warrior ship is in Papua
the ship's crew did a lot of activities, one of which documented the beauty of the forest in Papua.
On the way to Bali , the ship's crew got word that there was an oil spill in the Bay of Bali
where the impact affected the environment of the community, especially the marine biota."
The oil spill in the Bay of Bali is one example of environmental crimes,
which we all as human beings can do to save the environment,"
he said during a press conference aboard the Rainbow Warrior on Friday April 13 th 2018.
Actually the Rainbow Warrior ship is trying to stop at the Bali Bay
Board to be able to document the condition of the environment. It's just that due to limited time
, Hetti decided directly to Bali .
Greenpeace Indonesia Climate Campaign and Energy Campaigner, Hindun Mulaika,
said there are three environmental issues that are the main concern for this Rainbow Warrior trip .
Namely energy, the use of plastic that leads to waste in the sea, as well as reclamation in coastal areas.
He also hopes the arrival of this Rainbow Warrior ship can enlarge environmental issues
and rationalize concentration for environmental safety.
According to him if the environment is not saved from
any case then humans can not live with prosperous.
"Because it wil turn into a catastrophically disaster, hopefully this Rainbow Warrior
presence can unite us all and enlarge environmental issues," he said.
Greenpeace campaigns in addition to supporting the reclamation movement,
also campaigned on the importance of Bali to utilize renewable energy.
Related to that, Greenpeace criticized the construction of
Celukan Bawang power plant of 2x330 Mega Watt (MW) located in Buleleng.
Sources of energy that is still sourced from coal according
to him will worsen air quality in Bali .
Besides threatening public health as well as tourism in Bali .
This coal combustion has become one of the biggest impacts of climate change,
and burning coal will provide pollution that is very harmful to health," he added.
Mentioned, the construction of PLTU Celukan Bawang
is the wrong energy planning by the Provincial Government of Bali.
because it will poison the beauty and the natural balance of the Island of the Gods.
Together with the community, Greenpeace has filed a lawsuit
to have the project cancelled immediately.
"Coal Coal has become a dark past left in many countries around the world,
and renewable energy
such as solar power has become a new economic power
with the absorption of large local labor," he explained.
Meanwhile, ForBali coordinator, Wayan "Gendo" Suardana, said the Rainbow Warrior ship
is a ship that witnessed five years of Balinese people rejected the reclamation of Benoa Bay.
"On this ship was actually one of our first footholds in Benoa Bay five years ago
when we were fighting against the Benoa Bay reclamation plan," he said.
He hopes that the arrival of this ship can induce
the spirit of the Balinese people in particular, to continue fighting against reclamation.
"In addition, the international world can see that a powerful investment that is
backed up in such a way by that power does not necessarily play its agenda
if the people and the international world unite to fight," he added.
He says these clean energy campaigns are important to deliver and pay attention to.
Because according to him there are efforts to exploit natural resources (SDA)
that no longer pay attention to the environment.
Like the construction of coal power plant in north Bali.
