2.000 Balinese dancers break new record at the Petitenget Festival

16/09/2018, A total of 2,000 dancers consisting of PKK mothers and sekuni were from 50 adat groups from the Kerobokan Traditional Village, bringing colossal Weaving Dance at the peak of the Petitenget Festival at Petitenget Beach, Kerobokan Traditional Village, North Kuta District, Badung, Mangupura, NusaBali

Thousands of these dancers broke the record of the Muri (Indonesian World Record Museum) category of the most dancers. As many as 2,000 dancers performed the Tenun Dance on an area of ​​1.5 hectares. Before entering the staging location, 2,000 dancers who were all women gathered at the parking lot of Petitenget Temple which was not far from the stage location. The dancers began to enter the stage location at 5:00 p.m. One by one the dancers who entered the stage were counted by representatives from Muri. 

Chairperson of the Agung Agung Petitenget Festival Organizing Committee, Bagus Bayu Joni Saputra, said that the colossal Weaving Dance performance by 2,000 dancers was held in the afternoon to take advantage of the sunset moment. The dancers began to perform dances at 5:55 p.m. to 5:05 p.m. It is said that the dancers prepare themselves to perform since 07.00 WIB.

The initial plan for the number of dancers who would perform the Tenun Dance was 1,957 people. But because interest is very high, eventually it becomes 2,000 people. This number is indeed planned from the beginning, namely 40 people from 50 villages in Kerobokan Traditional Village. All the dancers involved are indigenous people of Kerobokan Traditional Village. 

In relation to the dancers who have suffered after performing a dance for 12 minutes, according to him there is nothing to worry about. If there are those who suffer, that means Ida Betara is present. "We have anticipated beforehand. We have held a ceremony asking the Almighty to make our activities run smoothly. This kind of problem of adversity is common, "he said.

This performance feels more special because the first dancer of Tenun Dance, Ketut Parmiani, 73, participated in enlivening the first new festival. Confirmed after the performance, Parmiani said that he felt very proud and emotionable to be involved in a dance performance created by his uncle, the late Nyoman Ridet. 

Badung Deputy Regent I Ketut Suiasa who was present at the closing of the Petitenget Festival, said the performance of the Weaving Dance by the Kerobokan Traditional Village was a very monumental and spectacular activity. According to him this activity is an activity that has never been carried out in any area in Bali.

"This is a joy for the Badung regency government and of course the Kerobokan custom. Kerobokan customary history has created history. What's even more proud is that this performance was followed by the first dancer of Tenun Dance, "he said. 

Muri manager Andre Purwandono who gave the award for the record-breaking said the colossal Weaving Dance performance by 2,000 people broke the Muri record. It is said that this colossal dance has never been staged anywhere in Indonesia or the world. This dance only exists in Bali.
