14-metre bryde's whale stranded & buried on Seminyak Beach

Stranded 14-metre whale washed up on one of Bali's most touristic beaches at Batu Belig on Thursday morning 21/01/2021 around 9 AM. The local conservation agency said it was investigating the causes of the death of the giant mammal that was found in batu Belig near  Seminyak. It was 13.8m long and 4m in diameter,said Prawono Meruanto, an agency official, who identified it as likely a Bryde's whale.

The Bryde's whale was found by locals Thursday morning 21/01/2021 on Batu Belig beach. Curious people quickly gathered to observe it, but faced with the strong odor given off by the carcass, the authorities buried it using an excavator.In July ten smaller whales were found on a beach in the Indonesian region of the small eastern Sunda Islands.

According Permana Yudiarso this type of whale, usually lives in the southern sea of ​​Bali below minimum  200 meters depth  . This whale is thought to have died in the middle of the sea by a unknow  cause. Whales sometimes get trapped by contrary currents or get stranded near shore due to coral reefs.

I Made alit Setiawan, the Head of the Batu Belig Kauh Neighborhood confirmed that the Bryde's whale was first spotted  around 9:00 am on thursday 21/01/2021.  At that time, the whale was seen floating in front of the Balisani Hotel  and finally stranded at 10.00 AM  in front of the W Bali hotel on Batu Belig Beach.
