Bali 9 member performing Balinese dancing , has sentence reductions and will be released in November 2018
Convicted drug mule Renae Lawrence has shown off her dancing skills
while serving time for her role in the 'Bali Nine' heroin smuggling plot
and revealed she could be released as early as next month.
Lawrence, 41, performed a traditional Balinese dance while wearing a male
costume during the Indonesian Correctional Board anniversary at Bangli Prison.
She is serving a 20-year sentence after being convicted of drug trafficking in 2005.
She arrived at Denpasar airport with 2.7kg of heroin concealed on her

Lawrence was originally sentenced to life behind bars but had her
sentence reduced after a successful appeal.
She told  that she is eligible for an early release in May due to
yearly remissions and sentence reductions.
To qualify for a release next month she needs to make a payment of $100,000
however she said she can't afford to make such a payment.
She will therefore serve an additional six months in prison.
Lawrence said she began learning Balinese dancing
while being held at Kerobokan prison.
'But here, the guards told me to dance. So I have learned again.
The prison staff teach us. We also learn from the internet, downloading
a video of the dancing and we follow that,' Lawrence said.
She has also been painting abstract art while serving her sentence.
Her dance performance is part of the
vigorous lifestyle she has been leading behind bars.
The former panel beater and hospitality worker from Newcastle,
who converted to Hinduism, has been making the most
of the rehabilitation programs on offer according to friends.
Lawrence has been taking up several new hobbies.
She has started classes to teach traditional Balinese dance
to fellow inmates  and even children, as well as sewing handmade wallets
to sell at tourist markets around Ubud.

Sunday marks three years since the execution of Lawrence's
co-accused Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan,
who were shot dead by firing squad in 2015.
Bangli Prison governor Diding Alpian praised Lawrence,
who is the only westerner being held at the facility.
Lawrence was the only member of the 'Bali Nine' not to
be sentenced to life in prison or the death penalty for her part in the plot.
She will be eligible for release from prison in November.
