Immigration officials in Bali on Tuesday summoned American citizen Kristen Gray who has been living in the resort island for more than a year for allegedly misusing her visa.

The move came after a thread from her Twitter account went viral as she detailed how she and her girl friend could enjoy an “elevated lifestyle at a much lower cost of living” during their stay and promoted her e-book titled “Our Bali Life is Yours ". It’s a guide breaking down how we did it and how you can do it too,” Gray wrote in the now-deleted tweet. The government has imposed restrictions on international arrivals from certain countries since April last year and completely shut down the country last month amid reports on new strain of coronavirus. Arvin said Gray is currently living in Karangasem District and local authorities have collected data about her passport and stay permit. In the Twitter thread, Gray wrote that she and her girl friend booked one-way flights to Bali in December 2019 with an initial plan of staying for six months to “stack some bread and elevate our lifestyle.”

Foreigners disobey Covid rules and laughing at authorities who will increased the fines from 100.000 Rp ( 7 US$ ) to 500.000 Rp ( 35 US$ ) for not wearing a mask. Foreigners disobey Covid rules and laughing at authorities who will increased the fines from 100.000 Rp ( 7 US$ ) to 500.000 Rp ( 35 US$ ) for not wearing a mask.     The head of the public order police in the Badung administration, Suryanegara, told  his troops felt like their dignity was being harassed by ignorant foreigners, who act like COVID-19 is not real. In Bali, Covid numbers are rapidly increasing with 579 deaths and more than 20,255 confirmed cases. As a result, Bali has declared Denpasar, Badung, Jembrana, Tabanan, and Gianyar as red zones.

Foreigners disobey Covid rules and laughing at authorities who will increased the fines from 100.000 Rp ( 7 US$ ) to 500.000 Rp ( 35 US$ ) for not wearing a mask.

The fine for failing to wear a mask is 100,000 Rp [ 7 US$ )  and Suryanegara said they were now considering increasing it to up to 500,000 Rp ( 35 US$ ).For those who claim not to have cash on them to pay the fine, authorities have been making them drop to the ground and do push ups. But most foreigners consider this a joke.

Foreigners disobey Covid rules and laughing at authorities who will increased the fines from 100.000 Rp ( 7 US$ ) to 500.000 Rp ( 35 US$ ) for not wearing a mask.

How could I not be annoyed? Sometimes we feel that we have been abused in our country,' Suryanegara said of the attitude of some foreigners who had remained in Bali throughout the pandemic. They usually laugh when we tell them to do push ups. They do it, but they are laughing. There is no regret shown on their faces. It doesn't work.

Foreigners disobey Covid rules and laughing at authorities who will increased the fines from 100.000 Rp ( 7 US$ ) to 500.000 Rp ( 35 US$ ) for not wearing a mask.

He said many shouted and yelled at his officers, asking things like 'What do you know about the pandemic', 'Do you think the virus is walking around the beach' and 'Do you think we can be infected by the virus when we are riding motorbikes. They often shout at us. Unfortunately we can't scold them. It's a test of our patience. It seems that most foreigners in Bali don't believe that COVID is real.

Foreigners disobey Covid rules and laughing at authorities who will increased the fines from 100.000 Rp ( 7 US$ ) to 500.000 Rp ( 35 US$ ) for not wearing a mask.

He said when his officers were standing at roadside checkpoints, foreigners would deliberately speed up their motorbikes and some even pretended they wanted to run them down. Not only do they not wear masks, many foreigners also don't wear helmets, speed up their motorbikes carelessly. It is very unsettling.

Suryanegara said foreigners causing most of the trouble are from eastern Europe, often Russia. He said 80 per cent of those fined for refusing to wear face masks were foreigners. He said there was also an emerging problem that some foreigners who had remained in Bali throughout the pandemic were now running out of money, had not paid their rent and were becoming homeless.

While it isn't rare to book out flights for big groups or business executives especially in Covid times, a Jakarta socialite has caught attention for booking an entire flight for just two passengers because "we ain't flying unless it's just us". Richard Muljadi had reportedly booked the two-hour flight between Jakarta to Bali for fear of getting infected with Covid-19, indicating in his Instagram stories that both he and his wife are "super paranoid" when it comes to the coronavirus.

A Lion Air Group spokesperson confirmed to Detik that Muljadi was onboard Batik Air’s ID-6502 flight flying from Jakarta to Bali. The plane which carried the couple offers 12 business class and 150 economy class seats, which means the charter could have cost Muljadi between the regions of 75 million rupiah to 110 million rupiah (US$540,000 to 790,000). Muljadi is the grandson of Kartini Muljad, a pharmaceuticals magnate who at a net worth of US$620 million was ranked 42nd in Forbes' 2020 list of 50 richest Indonesians.

Richard Muljadi came in the news in October 2020 when he was escorted with two police officers  on the JL By Pass Ngurah Rai in Denpasar. The police has been slammed after the video being circulated on social media after the incident and the Head of Public Relations of the Bali Police, Kombes Syamsi stated that police can only escort community activities and not escorting private services for their own benefit during their duty. He has been mostly in the news with drug related news and arrested on several occasions.
